Another important part of a social media campaign is "Social Media Monitoring". It is the process of constantly monitoring your effectiveness of the social media presence and activities. Social Media Monitoring consolidates and evaluates all your effort on the Social Media Marketing. It helps you decide your future plans and actions. Social media presence and activities should be constantly and carefully monitored.

There are various Analytics tools available to analyze the social media effectiveness.

The Facebook page insights can be viewed at https://www.facebook.com/insights/ for all your existing pages
Similarly, Youtube Insights - http://www.youtube.com/my_videos_insight are available

We need to have some of the KPIs calculated. They are:

Sentiment is the positive, neutral, or negative mentions about your brand, product or services over a given time period.
Sentiment Ratio = positive, neutral or negative mentions /All brand mentions

Audience Engagement is the amount of engagement or interest that your social media audience have on your social media presence and activities.
Audience Engagement = (Comments+Replies+Likes+Shares+Trackbacks)/Total Views

Share of Voice is the mentions of your brand, product or services in social media (i.e., articles, blogs, comments, Tweets, videos, etc.) against your competitors.
Share of Voice =  Brand's, Product's or Services' Mentions/Total Mentions(Brand + All Competitors)

Conversation reach is the reach of your activities(like publish of posts, images, videos, status updates, etc.) in social media channels.
Conversation Reach = Total People Interested/Total Audience Exposure

Also there are many other metrics like Social Media Issue Resolution Rate, Time Taken for Resolution, Customer Satisfaction Score through Social Media, etc.

Creating social media profiles

Planning on the Social Media Presence Creation is the first and foremost step in the Social Media Marketing Strategy -

It is important to have a presence in social media sites because it is inevitable for any business. The importance of creating a Social Media presence for your brand is discussed here - SOCIAL MEDIA ::: The Next Era on the Internet.

Let's discuss on how to plan on having a presence on social media sites. So, what are the sites you should have presence on?

Social Media Cube

Social Media can be classified basically as

  • Microblogging and Bookmarking sites like Twitter, Digg, Diigo, etc.
  • Social Networking sites like Facebook, MySpace, etc.
  • Blogging sites like Blogger, Wordpress, LiveJournal, etc.
  • Photo Sharing sites like Flickr, Picasa Web Albums, Photobucket, etc.
  • Video Sharing sites like YouTube, BlipTV, Vimeo, etc.
  • Document Sharing sites like Scribd, Issu, Docstoc, etc.

There are also sites that are based on different industries or for a particular purpose.

The primary sites where you need to have presence are Facebook, LinkedIn, YouTube, Flickr, Twitter, and Blogging platforms(like Blogger, Wordpress, LiveJournal, etc.) Irrelevant of what industry/business category you are in, having presence in these sites is quintessential.

Check out our Social Media Directory to know what are the important sites that you need presence on.

Our Profile Name Availability Checker tool will help you to know whether the profile name is available or not.

So, in the vast space of Social Media, you should plan on creating the presence on the sites where you can have the attraction of your target segment. Creating presence in all the networks will help you grab your username and help people to find your company/brand/business online easily. But, inactive profiles will not help you in any means.

The key here is to plan on the sites to have presence on before start the presence creation process. Then create the required profiles.

Branding the profiles

Another important task of the Social Media Presence Creation is the initial branding of the created pages.

For example, after creating the facebook page or twitter profile, appropriate branding should be done which include
